George Soros
Pro-democracy / criminal-justice-reform Democratic donor. NOT Israel-aligned. Soros has been openly critical of the Netanyahu government's policies — distinct from the pro-Israel-policy donors on this list.
Who they are.
Hungarian-American hedge-fund manager turned philanthropist. Founder of Open Society Foundations, one of the largest private philanthropic networks in the world. A top Democratic mega-donor for over two decades, and the most frequently invoked strawman in right-wing attack messaging — almost always inaccurately. Surfaced here neutrally for editorial integrity: track the variable, not the meme.
The chain.

The targets.
On the record.
“An open society is impossible without freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the rule of law.”
“I do not believe in the policies of the Netanyahu government, but my opposition is not opposition to Israel.”

Questions about George Soros.
Is George Soros pro-Israel?
No — and this is frequently misrepresented. Soros has been publicly critical of the Netanyahu government's policies for years and Open Society Foundations has funded human-rights groups working on Israeli-Palestinian issues. He is not a donor to AIPAC, UDP, or DMFI, and is foreign-policy-distinct from the Israel-aligned donors on this list. He is included here because right-wing attack messaging routinely (and inaccurately) groups him with pro-Israel mega-donors — accurate tracking requires surfacing him honestly.
What does George Soros actually fund?
Soros's documented political giving is primarily directed at: reform-minded local district attorneys (Philadelphia, LA, Chicago, St. Louis), voter-access organizations, criminal-justice reform groups, and top-of-ticket Democratic candidates. Open Society Foundations, separately from his political giving, funds human rights, education, and pro-democracy work in roughly 120 countries.
Why is Soros so frequently attacked?
Soros has been a focal point of right-wing attack messaging for over a decade. Some of that traces to his actual policy positions (criminal-justice reform, opposition to Trump). Some has been documented as straightforwardly antisemitic conspiracy framing. The Gen Us editorial position is to track his actual giving with citations and to surface him neutrally — not to amplify or dismiss the meme.
